It Doesn't Get Better Than This

Note: I wrote this a few weeks ago but I am just getting around to posting it. Thanks for visiting.

October is the month of our wedding anniversary. For our anniversary we celebrated with a delicious steak dinner at home. James(the best husband ever) surprised me with tickets to see Garth Brooks at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

We just got back from our weekend road trip to Vegas.

Saturday was one of the best days ever..

Shopping at The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace, lunch at Mon Ami Gabi, life changing macaroni & cheese at Chef Emeril Lagasse's Table 10 restaurant for dinner, and then sitting on the 8th row in a small theater where Garth Brooks bore his soul using just his voice and a guitar. It doesn't get better than this.

My single picture from the show since photography is not allowed during the show.
This is how the stage was set up, just a stool and a guitar in the spotlight.

Since we saw Garth in Vegas last month Garth has announced a TV special and a new CD box set featuring songs he sang on stage at the Wynn. The songs he sings are the songs that inspired and influenced him throughout his life. If you are a Garth Brooks fan, like we are, you are going to love it!
The live TV special will be air November 29th on CBS. You can get the "Blame It All On My Roots"
box set on Black Friday at WalMart.

Project Life: Week 27

For Week 27 most of my pictures were from the 4th of July so for this post I will share my pages that feature these photos.

On the 4th of July I went with my family to the Mt. Pleasant rodeo to see my cousin Tyson compete in the bull riding competition (Tyson is the cowboy in the picture on the right side of page 2). It was fun to celebrate the 4th at a small town celebration with my family.

Where was James?
James was working the closing shift at Target.
He did open the roof hatch so that all of the team members working could watch fireworks from the roof.

Project Life: Week 18

Here are my pages Week 18. Enjoy.

Entire layout

Page 1

Page 2

I like that I was able to include a few older pictures in the layout for this week. On Page 2 I used vintage photos of my grandmas with their daughters as part my Mother's Day layout.
I also used one from the Sundance Film Festival circa 2001, maybe 2002 in the treasures from the past section on Page 1. I had fun going through my old stuff during this week finding letters that my mom wrote me, old concert tickets, my Hollywood Video name tag, old homemade Halloween decorations, and my first portable CD player (it is so heavy, feels like a brick now).

Happy Father's Day!

I just want to take a moment to acknowledge the men in my life.
My life is blessed because these men are a part of it.

My sweet husband and love of my life, James.
My FIL Randy (with James in the mail truck).
Granddad, James' grandfather (with James).

My Grandpa Black (with his son Wayne).

My Grandpa Neel (with his mother and daughter Echo).

And last but not least,
My own dad (with me in the summer of 1980).

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Father's Day celebrating and remembering the men that have made a difference in your lives.

Project Life: Week 14

I finished week 14 tonight.

I love page 2 of this layout. It summarizes the knowledge and inspiration gained from a weekend watching LDS General Conference. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we gather twice a year to listen to the words of the prophet and apostles. I know that the words these men and women speak are true.  I feel so blessed to live in this technological age where we can listen to the words of the prophet and apostles from the comfort of our living room.

If you follow Deseret Book on Instagram or Facebook they post these cool graphics that relate back to the talks that are given at General Conference. I simply snap screen shots of these on my iPhone and then later clip the screen shot to the masks in my 9 square template in Photoshop Elements.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all of the women who have mothered my over the years. There have been many of you. My own mother, mother-in-law, grandmas (many generations of them), aunts, primary teachers, Young Women's Leaders, Relief Society sisters, and work moms.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of my favorite moms:

My mom (Madge), with baby Dayna on her lap with me next to them.

My husband (as a baby) and his mom (Dina).

My Grandma Black (my mom's mom) with Mom and Uncle Wayne.

My Grandma Joyce (Dad's mom) with her daughter Echo.

and are the machinery that give zest to the whole man,
and guide the destinies and lives of men and nations upon the earth."

One Year Ago

I wrote this before my mom's birthday, but didn't share it at the time. I thought I could share it today now that all of the firsts are over.

One year ago we were scrambling last minute to make her birthday special.

This year we are doing the same.

I just ordered sky lanterns. I can now cross that off of my to do list.

Tomorrow I need to make a few phone calls to party guests
(we need to work around Easter celebrations this year).

And a most important decision must be made between cake & cupcakes.

We will celebrate.
We will celebrate her life.
We will celebrate her love.
And we will celebrate that through God's great plan she lives,
we will all live, and we will be together, a family forever, someday.

Project Life: Week 11

Here is Week 11.

The second page of this layout is one of my favorite creations so far this year.I love the monochromatic greens with the tan backgrounds and accents of yellow here and there. I recolored a lot of the elements in Photoshop Elements to make layout scream green. I also love the 3X4 cards that I used from Lori Whitlock's collection on I was also excited to find a graphic for Argo online that matched my color scheme.

Happy Birthday Mom!

I think about you everyday. As I sleep, I always have dreams that I am looking for you.
Every time I hear an Elton John song I think of you, memories of you singing along.
I miss your laugh and your smile. I know that you are not that faraway and that our separation is only temporary, but some days are still hard.
I love you and miss you so much.

"So much of me is what I learned from you,
You'll be with me, like a hand print on my heart...
Because I knew you
I have been changed for good"

I have been thinking about this for months now.

I have tried many times to write about it only  to type and then delete sentence after sentence.

I finally realized that I have been trying to make it more complicated than it needs to be.
That part of the reason this message is so powerful is because it is so simple.

Pay it FORWARD! Some of you might remember the movie. In the movie, a boy comes up with this idea for his homework assignment. The idea starts with one person. That one person performs acts of service for three different people. Those three people "pay it FORWARD" by performing acts of service for three more people, and so on.

I came to the conclusion a few months ago that for me
moving FORWARD means paying it FORWARD.

My family has been so blessed. So many people have rallied to support my family members during their battles with cancer.

How can we ever give back as much as others have given?

The answer is simple:

Our acts of service don't need to be grand gestures. Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most to those you serve.

I have been thinking back to my mom's birthday last year when we invited friends, family, and the neighborhood to sing "Happy Birthday" to her. Each person there was there only to sing, but for my mom and for us they were doing much more. I will never forget looking up the street to see dozens of people walking to our house. In that moment we knew that we were not alone. Our small tight knit community of family, friends, and neighbors was there to support us when we needed it the most.

When it comes down to it when you "pay it FORWARD" no matter how big or small the act of service, you are reminding God's children that they are not alone. That God is mindful of their needs and that there is still a great amount of good in the world.

For these reasons I will spend the rest of my life doing what I can to

We're Back!

We returned from a wonderful vacation yesterday.

James and I spent seven days on the Carnival Magic as it sailed through the Caribbean Sea.

Seven days in the Caribbean does a body and soul good.

Here are a few of the shots that I managed to capture:

Reboarding at sunset in Cozumel, Mexico
A small secluded beach at the Mayan ruins of Tulum.

Project Life 2013: Week 1

Project Life 2013 Week 1

I started digital scrapbooking and using the Project Life system last May. I am excited to start at the beginning of 2013 and I hope to keep up with it through the year.

Typically my spreads are two 12x12 pages for each week.
This week's spread is only one page, but I think Week 2 will also only be one page so I figure it will turn out all right in the end. There is not a lot going on around here and I need to get back in the habit of taking more pictures and making notes on my phone's Day One app.

Press FORWARD and Be Steadfast

When I chose the word FORWARD as my One Litte Word for 2013 I couldn't help but think of this:
Wherefore, ye must press forward with a asteadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of bhope, and a clove of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and dendure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eeternal life.

After looking this up, I then did a quick search for the term "press forward."

The first thing that I came to was this talk given by Elaine S. Dalton in 2003:

Press FORWARD and Be Steadfast

What does it mean to press FORWARD?
To move FORWARD with determination, regardless of adversity or distraction.

I also noted the following from Sister Dalton's talk:

Press FORWARD with a steadfast testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Steadfast choices of one individual affect generations. Your daily decisions will influence generations.
In order to press FORWARD you have to have a vision of where you are going.

One Little Word

Happy New Year, Everyone!!!

I hope that everyone has enjoyed a wonderful holiday season surrounded by family and loved ones.

I don't know about all of you but, I must say that it feels good to be at the beginning of a new year.

A few years ago I read a blog post by Ali Edwards that I was reminded of recently.
She chooses a word at the beginning of every new year that communicates her vision of what she wants for herself in the upcoming year. With this idea in mind I started thinking about what word would best represent my vision for 2013. After a conversation with James, I wanted a word that would remind me to be present, in the moment, and to be excited for the future. After all that has happened in 2012 it would be so easy to get stuck in the past. I had all intentions of using the word 'be' until I saw this video posted on Facebook on New Year's Eve:

This little piece of inspiration found me right when I needed it. From this I found my one little word (or did my little word find me?):

I can't wait to see where this word takes me in 2013!

You can learn more about Ali Edwards' One Little Word here.
