#TBT 10.30.2014

Here we are on Halloween 1988. We never had expensive costumes. Our costumes were made up of pieces from our regular every day clothes, dance leotards, and last minute items or make-up purchased at Fred Meyer. Seeing how our costumes turned out was always my favorite part.
Just before dark we would light the jack-o-lanterns on the front porch, say goodbye to Mom, and then we would walk down the hill to Grandma's house. Grandma would give us candy, but only after she took our picture. Then we would hit the neighborhood with our friends going from house to house filling our bags with candy.
We knew each and every one of our neighbors and they made a big fuss over all of the kids that lived on our street. When we knocked on doors neighbors would invite all of us inside and were excited to see each of our costumes. Halloween on 600 West was always just fun.

#TBT 10.23.2014

Today's Throwback Thursday photograph is a favorite of mine.
Aren't these little boys adorable?
I love their hats.
The older boy in the middle is my grandfather, Shirley Neel. I believe the other boys are his younger brothers Jimmy and Frank.
While the exact year is unknown, this was taken sometime in the 1930s.
