#TBT 11.13.2014

In on of Veterans' Day I thought that I would share this photograph

of my grandpa during WWII.

My grandpa, Shirley Neel, joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was

stationed on the U.S.S. Henderson DD-785. This ship was a screen

ship for escort carriers in Hawaiian waters from November 7, 1945

until April 23, 1946. During this time the ship also conducted

experimental sonar tests with submarines.

What I love about this photograph is that it captures this young

man from a small town in Utah on his adventure of a lifetime.

You can see it in his smile as he looks up into the sun.

Grandpa Neel was a great example of patriotism to me.

The last vacation that all five of us went on together.

Dad took this photo of us.
